http://ThoriumRemix.com/ How much thorium do you think you'll be pawing up a year? And he goes- I think about 5000 tons. He goes- Is that a lot? By my calculations, 5000 tons of thorium would supply the planet with all of its energy for a year. I said- So your 1 mine, in Missouri, would bring up enough thorium- without even trying- to power the entire planet. And he goes- And there's like a zillion other places on earth that are just like my mine. I mean- it's a nice mine, but it's not unique, it's not like this is the one place on earth where this is found.

  • Finding Something Unexpected in an Abandoned Copper Mine

What an unexpected discovery! Paul and I never imagined finding what we found deep in this abandoned copper mine in Arizona. The Warren-Bisbee Mine's obscure entrance was basically a rabbit hole and didn't look too promising. However, once we gained entry by sliding in on our backs, the tunnels opened up and were surprisingly extensive. One tunnel led us deep into the mine to an inner area where we found -- something. Something impressive. Something rare that I've only seen a few times in abandoned mines over the last seven years or so. And it's all here in this video. Enjoy! Discovering an actual Woolly Mammoth and mysterious manuscript here are Rare Historical Artifacts You Won't Believe Exist. Subscribe to Talltanic http://goo.gl/wgfvrr 8. 36,000 Year Old Meat Freezer Scientist in Siberia found bodies of Woolly Mammoths carcasses fully preserved from the extreme cold and snow. They were completely frozen solid for thousands of years under permafrost which preserved their body from prehistoric times. This keeps them in almost perfect condition; as if they were hunted just yesterday. Since mammoths are extinct, this makes it an incredible find and their remains will be an artifact from the past that will be intensively researched. 7. Roman Dodecahedron This is a small metal object that dates back to the 2nd or 3rd century AD and many of these strange things have been found in the former territories of the Roman Empire. Each one is different but has the same overall shape but it looks like an underwater mine to me. Each hole in this object is a different size and no one can figure out exactly it’s for. Tests have been done and some claim they’re used for making gloves. This theory would make sense but they are strange object from the past with much debate. 6. Prehistoric Hammer Head? This hammer head was found in London, Texas in 1936 while hiking and it seemed like this object didn’t belong covered in granite. How could this be possible? The hammer is 6 inches long with a one inch diameter and is made up of primarily iron. There have been no conflicting reports and can be seen in a museum, but how? So what came first, the rock or the hammer? Skeptics argue that rocks could have stuck to the hammer around the Cretaceous Period. But the hammer seems to have the design from about 200 years ago. Certainly something that puzzles geologists. 5. The Horned Helmet of Henry VIII This strange design is technically called an “armet” which means horned helmet. This was a gift presented by the Holy Roman emperor in 1514. The craftsmanship of this helmet made King Henry want something a little bit better each time and his standards increasingly got more specific even though this was one of his favorite pieces. What makes this design unique is how it covers the entire face for protection and the armets aren’t typically an English design. 4. The Malgana Treasure After most of the gold was plundered by the Spanish Conquistadors very few original artifacts remain in this region of Columbia. A lot of pieces that were found by farmers were unfortunately melted down and made into bullion. This ceremonial mask is worth over $300,000 USD in gold alone. This lucky farmer who found the mask, sold it to be preserved in a museum in Bogota, Columbia. 3. The Voynich Manuscript Carbon-dated from the 15th century, this mind boggling text was found in Northern Italy and is written in an unknown language or code. Much of the origins of the book are unknown. A lot of pages were mysteriously ripped out, but the ones still there have some type of illustration of plants and astronomical figures. The texts have been attempted to be deciphered but with no success. What was this secret code used for and was it hiding something we don’t know? Many have guessed, but even with our modern technology, we still have no idea exactly what it’s about. 2. The Bosnian Forest Sphere The discovery of this sphere in the Bosnian woods, has created a debate on whether an ancient civilization once lived here. This sphere appears to be made of iron and could weigh over 30 tons! The diameter is believed to be any where from 7-10 feet wide. This artifact could change the history of Europe as we know it. Other villages in the area claimed discoveries of their own sphere and there could be as many as 80 total! As soon as we think we have a good understanding of history, something new comes along to rewrite the books. The Gold Encrusted Dagger of Stonehenge Just half a mile from stonehenge, what was believed to be the original “jewels of the King of Stonehenge” were found. This priceless relic from the past is extremely well detailed and the studs were thinner than a hole in a threading needle. The overlapping fishscale design took an incredible amount of time to create, with over 140,000 tiny gold studs, and would have been fit for only a king to enjoy. What’s even more astonishing is the period in which it was created. With this being made 4,000 years ago and using microscopic particles of gold; it’s quite impressive.

Who on Earth is exposed to the most ionizing radiation? Check out Audible: http://bit.ly/AudibleVe I'm filming a documentary for TV about how Uranium and radioactivity have shaped the modern world. It will be broadcast in mid-2015, details to come. The filming took me to the most radioactive places on Earth (and some places, which surprisingly aren't as radioactive as you'd think). Chernobyl and Fukushima were incredible to see as they present post-apocalyptic landscapes. I also visited nuclear power plants, research reactors, Marie Curie's institute, Einstein's apartment, nuclear medicine areas of hospitals, uranium mines, nuclear bomb sites, and interviewed numerous experts. Notes about measuring radiation: Sieverts are a measure of 'effective dose' - that means they measure the biological impact of the energy transferred to tissues from radiation. Obviously I owe a debt to the fantastic chart made by xkcd, which inspired my visual approach to this video. https://xkcd.com/radiation/ DOSES MAY VARY The level of radiation varies widely around the world depending mainly on altitude and geology (excluding nuclear accidents). Estimates of particular doses also vary. All numbers reported in this video should be taken as order of magnitude only. The most contentious claim may be that smokers receive the highest dose of ionizing radiation. This is not a whole body dose, but a dose to the lungs as specified in the video. We've been to the Moon but we've barely scratched the surface of our own planet! Trace explains what it would take for humans to see into the center of the Earth and why we haven't yet made the trek. Read More: Electromagnetically driven westward drift and inner-core superrotation in Earth's core http://www.pnas.org/content/early/2013/09/13/1307825110 "Seismic probing of the earth's deep interior has shown that the inner core, the solid core of our planet, rotates slightly faster (i.e., eastward) than the rest of the earth." World's Deepest Mines Highlight Risks of New Gold Rush http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2007/11/071106-africa-mine.html "As gold prices reach near-record highs, South Africa's mining companies are keeping up by drilling to record depths." How the Mariana Trench Became Earth's Deepest Point http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2012/04/120405-james-cameron-mariana-trench-deepsea-challenger-oceans-science/ "The Mariana Trench isn't really the deep, narrow furrow that the word "trench" implies. Rather, the abyss marks the location of a subduction zone." Will the magnetic field of the Earth reverse its direction in the future? Will this cause problems? http://curious.astro.cornell.edu/question.php?number=523 "The magnetic field of the Earth has actually switched its direction many many times during Earth's history. Although this is not completely understood, the leading theory of how it works is that Earth's magnetic field is caused by the motion of the liquid outer core. The churning of the liquid in the outer core acts as a giant electromagnet, moving electrical charges around, in what is known as the 'geomagnetic dynamo.'" What If Earth's Magnetic Poles Flip? http://www.livescience.com/18426-earth-magnetic-poles-flip.html "The end of the world as we know it could come in any number of ways, depending on who you ask. Some people believe global cataclysm will occur when Earth's magnetic poles reverse. When north goes south, they say, the continents will lurch in one direction or the other, triggering massive earthquakes, rapid climate change and species extinctions." New insights solve 300-year-old problem: The dynamics of the Earth's core http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2013-09/uol-nis091313.php "Scientists at the University of Leeds have solved a 300-year-old riddle about which direction the centre of the earth spins." Earth's Magnetic Field Shifts, Forcing Airport Runway Change http://www.livescience.com/9231-earths-magnetic-field-shifts-forcing-airport-runway-change.html "The magnetic north pole is currently hovering over the North Sea and moving toward Siberia. This means two Florida airports are renumbering their runways."
